Approach

Scott’s goal in providing tax services is to minimize his clients’ tax liabilities by utilizing all available legal methods.

He counsels his clients on optimal ways to time the recognition of capital gains and other income, maximize deductions and credits, and avoid the alternative minimum tax (“AMT”), to the extent possible, to reduce their overall tax liabilities. Whenever necessary, he aggressively represents his clients’ interests before the IRS and state taxing authorities.  He represents clients in a number of states, including Texas, New York, California, Washington, Maryland, as well as U.S. citizens working abroad in several countries.

Experience

Scott is licensed as both an attorney and CPA. He began his career at the international accounting firms Arthur Andersen LLP and KPMG LLP in Dallas, where he focused on tax matters for individuals, business owners, and investment partnerships.  He has experience preparing federal and state tax returns for individuals, partnerships, LLCs, S Corporations, C Corporations, and trusts.  Since leaving public accounting to pursue a legal education, he has broadened his experience in income tax planning, IRS representation and IRS controversy matters by practicing alongside noted tax attorneys and litigators at the law firms of K&L Gates and Meadows, Collier, Reed, Cousins, Crouch & Ungerman, in Dallas, Texas. Family History

Scott has been a CPA for 10 years and comes from a family of CPAs.  His father, Raymond Schieffer, has been licensed since 1973 as a CPA in Texas and maintains a private practice in Carthage, Texas.  His aunt, Sandra Schieffer, has 32 years of experience and is the founding partner of Mangum, Schieffer, Bradley & Co., PLLC, in San Antonio, Texas.  His uncle, John Schieffer, has been a CPA for over 30 years and manages accounting functions in the family office for a privately held investment company in San Antonio, Texas.
